| carte blanche (white marble mistakes) speaks back to markers of violence–sculptural and architectural monuments with their roots in the Italian Renaissance. In residency at Carico Massimo in Livorno, we interrogate the relationships between these monuments and our bodies, between personal and collective history, between seabed and sea level. Sea water and marble become collaborators in our attempt to produce antibodies against virulent concepts of beauty, truth and power inherent in white European culture. |
